Summary:

Results from the UK study on 5040 individuals in primary care looking at the long-term efficacy of AF screening in older individuals at moderate to high risk of stroke using 14-day (Zio), patch-based continuous ambulatory electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring.

Key Findings:

  • UK study at Oxford in JAMA on 5040 patients >65 y/o with CHA2DS2VASc score of 3 for men and 4 for women who were randomized to usual care vs Zio 14-day LTCM home enrollment ordered from primary care
  • At 2.5 years post-randomization, AF detected in 6.8% in Zio vs 5.4% in control group (p=0.03).
  • Time to diagnosis for Zio monitored group was 103 days vs 530 in control group.
