Extended cardiac ambulatory rhythm monitoring in adults with congenital heart disease: Arrhythmia detection and impact of extended monitoring

Summary:

Retrospective study on adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) patients looking at 14-day ambulatory cardiac monitoring compared to 48-hour monitoring for patient management. 

Key Findings:

  • 54% of patients experienced their first arrhythmia after 48 hours of monitoring.
  • Management changes including medicine changes, further diagnostic testing, or procedures in 16% patients monitored beyond 48 hours.
  • Among those requiring a care change, 43% had changes due to arrhythmias detected after 48 hours.
  • 34% of care changes were due to SVT, while 66% were due to NSVT.
