162 Feasibility and Diagnostic Yield of Mobile Cardiac Outpatient Telemetry (MCOT) Initiated from the Emergency Department

Authors: A. You, G. Wardi, V. Tolia.

Summary:

Retrospective review evaluating the use of 14-day mobile cardiac outpatient telemetry (MCOT) patch devices applied to patients at ED discharge for symptoms such as palpitations, chest pain, or syncope, assessing feasibility, patient compliance, and arrhythmia detection compared with traditional short-term monitoring.

Key Findings:

  • N= 117, 71.8% had at least one arrhythmia, 27.4% having multiple arrhythmias.
  • Average time to arrhythmia was 4.1 days.
  • There may be less utility in 24-hour observation admissions in patients with syncope which may improve overall hospital resource utilization.
